The police apprehend a suspect who might be in possession of drugs. The suspect refuses to make a statement. However, thanks to new analysis equipment, the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) only needs a single day to provide the police with an expert's report, which can serve as evidence in a criminal case.
The NFI developed NFiDENT in collaboration with the police and the Public Prosecution Service. NFiDENT enables the police to carry out measurements on their own and to forward the data to the NFI. Our forensic drug experts then check the quality, interpret the results and send the expert's report to the police.
In principle, all of this is possible within a single day, whereas the 'old' processing time was 22 days on average. This was because the police had to send the suspected drugs to the NFI, where our drug experts would carry out the measurements.

The new method saves time and money throughout the criminal justice system. That is why, together with the police and the Public Prosecution Service, we want to deploy NFiDENT at a national level as soon as possible. The NFI saves data on a digital platform, which opens up even more new possibilities, allowing our experts to identify trends and share them with the police.
