Cyber Forensics and Big Data

Developments in digital investigation progress quickly and present forensic investigators with new challenges time and time again. It is no longer the question whether but rather which digital evidence has been left behind at a crime scene.

The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) has developed an innovative programme aimed at how this digital evidence can be detected and secured best. The Cyber Forensics and Big Data programme applies methods to analyse material around cybercrime in a forensically responsible manner.

In this programme, NFI’s existing digital investigation is developed further. This platform makes it possible to automatically upload and categorise large quantities of data, enabling clients to search the material themselves.

Within the framework of this programme, the NFI is also developing intelligent data tools that may be used for digital forensic investigation. The tools may establish connections and prove relationships which are impossible to discover from the complex data flows by human experts.
