NFI to work with Chinese forensic laboratory

The NFI has signed a declaration of intent with the Chinese Institute of Forensic Science, a forensic laboratory based in Shanghai. This declaration expresses the desire for cooperation between the two institutes in the field of Research & Development and quality management. Following a symposium organised by the Chinese institute, the General Director of the NFI, Dr. T. Tjin-A-Tsoi, signed the declaration of intent, together with the President of the Chinese forensic institute, Professor Shen Min.

The first meetings with the Chinese institute date back to the end of 2006, when a delegation from the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the NFI visited the institute in Shanghai. The Institute of Forensic Science is a forensic laboratory that falls under the Chinese Ministry of Justice. Like the NFI, one of the institute's key tasks is to develop new methods and technologies for forensic research. It is regarded as one of the best institutes in Asia in this field. In March of this year a Chinese delegation visited the NFI. These meetings inspired the institutes' desire for cooperation in the field of innovative research and quality management.

Cooperation with quality institutes and companies

At the symposium in Shanghai, the NFI presented its research plans for the next few years to an international audience from the world of forensics. The Dutch institute is aiming to strengthen its position as leading forensic services supplier in the near future by entering into strategic collaborations and alliances, on a bilateral basis, with a limited number of leading institutes and companies. Its cooperation with the Chinese institute fits within these plans.

The Institute of Forensic Science is responsible for monitoring the quality and expertise of local forensic laboratories across China.
