Improvement of complex forensic DNA analysis

On 16 March, NFI researcher Corina Benschop will obtain her doctorate from the University of Amsterdam on the subject of optimising methods of analysis for complex DNA traces. Her research makes it possible to obtain more and clearer information from such traces.

Complex forensic DNA analysis

In her doctoral thesis, Benschop deals with various aspects of complex forensic DNA analysis. DNA analysis is considered complex if the cell material of an offender and/or the victim is of a poor quality, if it is available in only a very small quantity or if the victim and the offender are related to each other.

Benschop's research into the optimisation of the analysis of such complex DNA traces constitutes a major step towards increasing evidential value.
