NFI's CEO testifies before US Senate Committee

Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, has invited Dr Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, CEO of the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), to testify before a hearing on current trends and challenges in the forensic science sector.

In his "Forensic Science and Standards Act of 2012", senator Rockefeller indicates that a scientific base is essential for forensic science:

"It’s time to fix longstanding problems associated with some forensic techniques. The credibility of our criminal justice system depends on us getting this right. We’re going to take a look at ways scientific research and the latest technologies can help properly identify criminals and prevent wrongful convictions."

Dr Tjin-A-Tsoi will discuss governance of modern forensic science organisations and his views on a new business model for the forensic science sector, as described in his white paper 'Trends, Challenges and Strategy in the Forensic Science Sector'. He will emphasize the importance of empirical research and cooperation within the sector itself and with the private sector.

The Committee Hearing will be held on 26 June at 2:30 pm in Washington (7:30 pm GMT), and can be viewed live on the internet.
