Forensic Science International special issue 2013 on EAFS2012

Scientific journal Forensic Science International selected 18 scientific contributions that were presented during the European Academy of Forensic Science (EAFS2012) held in The Hague in 2012, and published them as a special issue. The contributions can be downloaded free of charge during July 2013.

EAFS2012 was organised by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). The content of the contributions shows that forensic research seeks improvements within the discipline by the development of new analytical and interpretative methods, but also seeks to foster the interaction between Forensic Science and its related disciplines, like education, medicine, law and quality assurance.

Contributions

For example the first contribution emphasizes that e-learning in the field of forensic interpretation is an essential tool for forensic practitioners, medical practitioners and lawyers. It allows them to gain the necessary knowledge to interpret the forensic findings rationally, both at source and activity level, and to communicate between them more efficiently on basis of common forensic knowledge, as stressed in the second contribution.

The last contribution focuses on the validation of forensic interpretation methods, a crucial step in the accreditation process. Accreditation is the tool for quality assurance to demonstrate to the related discipline and the outside world the validity and reliability of the forensic practice.

All the other contributions are of equal interest and importance.
