Nuclear Security Summit 2014

Yesterday, Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans, and The Hague Mayor Jozias van Aartsen gave a press conference about the Nuclear Security Summit 2014 (NSS 2014).

The Nuclear Security Summit will be held in the World Forum in The Hague on 24 and 25 March 2014. The purpose of this summit is to prevent nuclear terrorism, worldwide. It will be the biggest summit ever held in The Hague. The participants will come from 53 countries and four international organisations, with representatives at the highest political level.

The Netherlands has several key objectives during the NSS 2014. One of these key objectives relates to forensic investigation of nuclear incidents. The NFI is the coordinator of an international programme that aims at a cross-border approach to nuclear terrorism and for this purpose it cooperates with Interpol and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Internationally, the NFI plays a leading role in the area of forensic examination of evidence in nuclear and radiological incidents.
