Visitors to Rijksmuseum Boerhaave solve murder case with the help of NFI experts
A knife, a victim’s body and a lot of bloodstains. What happened in the conference hall at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden? In the night of 12/13 April, visitors to the science museum will be solving a fictitious murder case, with the help of forensic examiners from the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). Who will succeed in establishing what took place at the scene of the crime? Who can solve the case as quickly as possible? There is a prize for the winner.

The public event ‘Murder Mystery at the Museum’ at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is being organised by the museum and the NFI. Science brought the national knowledge institutes together. The museum’s mission is ‘Discover science’, while the NFI’s mission is ‘Focused on truth, guided by science, for a safer society’. The event at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is being held to mark the NFI’s anniversary. The institute was founded 25 years ago. In 1999, the Forensic Laboratory and the Laboratory for Forensic Pathology were merged to form what is now the NFI, but its history goes back even further: the Forensic Laboratory was founded in 1945. That is almost 80 years ago.
Visitors to the event in the museum will be introduced to the NFI’s work in a light-hearted way. The NFI is one of the world’s leading forensic knowledge and expertise centres and has nearly 40 different forensic areas of expertise under one roof. The institute specialises in DNA analysis, forensic post-mortems, examining fibres and accessing, retrieving and deciphering digital information from suspects’ phones, among other things. Through these investigations, the transfer of knowledge and innovation, the NFI provides assistance and advice with regard to investigations and fact-finding in criminal investigation cases to a wide range of national and international clients. The event at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is sold out. We wish all the participating teams the best of luck and an enjoyable evening!
